Fora Health’s Peer Mentor Supervisor, Michael Hovey, supported a great post from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing championing the importance of mentors at treatment facilities.

Fora Health’s Medical Director for Withdrawal Management, Dr. Jennifer Hartley, spoke with KATU News about the Drug overdose spike in Oregon and the challenges treatment facilities have in its wake.

For many, recovery is not a straightforward path, with as many as 2/3 of patients returning to substance use within the first few weeks of treatment. Eli, Fora Health Alum, is grateful that Fora staff encouraged him, so that wasn’t his story!

Samantha, a Fora Health graduate, recalls how her mental health was intertwined with her use; she took drugs to escape her anxiety and depression. As her use increased and she began taking stronger substances, Samantha yearned for sobriety. When she first started her recovery journey, Samantha tried to maintain her sobriety without help. She would go to a treatment facility for withdrawal (detox) but didn’t want to try residential care.
