Welcome to the Board!

We are excited to welcome three new members to the Fora Health Board of Directors: Kevin Valk, Owner, Principal, and Design Director of Holst Architecture, Dr. Amit Shah, CareOregon’s Chief Medical Officer, and Dr. Paul M. Conti, Psychiatrist and Consultant with Pacific Premier Group. All three of our new Board Members bring a wealth of relevant talent and expertise to the Board as well as a passion for the equitable treatment of substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders in our community.

Kevin Valk

Kevin Valk, Owner, Principal, and Design Director of Portland based firm Holst Architecture, joined the Fora Health Board in May. After graduating from Roger Williams University with his bachelor’s degree in Architecture in 1996, Kevin moved to Portland in search of something different. As a project designer and manager at Holst for more than twenty-four years, Kevin has been an integral part of the firm’s growth and success.

As Design Director, Kevin guides the overall design direction of the office by working with each team, providing guidance and support in meeting the project’s goals, while also setting the tone for design being a priority in the office culture and professional development.

Kevin has worn multiple hats, deftly guiding projects from schematic design through construction. His passion for design, commitment to serving his clients’ needs, and diverse skill set are the hallmarks of his tenure at Holst. Those attributes have been on full display as Kevin guided the design of Fora Health’s new building. Kevin’s leadership was integral to the success of our capital project and we are honored to have him join our Board.

Dr. Amit Shah

Dr. Amit Shah, currently serving as Chief Medical Officer for CareOregon, joined the Fora Health Board of Directors this February. Dr. Shah is a key member of CareOregon’s executive team with a deep knowledge of public health systems. Prior to his appointment as CMO, Dr. Shah served as CareOregon’s Senior Medical Director of Network Services, working on clinical informatics and clinical system redesign. Previously, he held the position of Medical Director of the Multnomah County Health Department.

Dr. Shah received his medical training at the Drexel University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed a Family Medicine residency at the Northern New Mexico Family Practice Program and is certified in Biomedical Informatics by Oregon Health & Science University. He attended the University of Rochester where he received his undergraduate degree in Molecular Genetics. Dr. Shah is Board Certified in Family Medicine, received his Oregon State Medical License in June 2000, and has been a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians since 1994. Dr. Shah has been a long-time advocate for Fora Health’s work, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the Board!

Dr. Paul M. Conti

Dr. Paul M. Conti, a practicing psychiatrist treating all aspects of mental health and the impact of life stressors, joined the Fora Health Board of Directors in December 2020. His practice includes the use of medications and psychotherapy, neurobiological and psychological education, and neuropsychiatric assessments. Dr. Conti is an expert in the treatment of complex cases of co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders, and brings this unique skill set to the Fora Health Board. In addition to clinical treatment, Dr. Conti provides business and legal consulting services and serves patients and clients across the United States and abroad.

Dr. Conti is a graduate of the Stanford University School of Medicine and completed his medical training at Stanford and at Harvard, where he served as Chief Resident. After his term as Chief Resident, Dr. Conti worked in private practice while serving on the medical faculty at Harvard. In 2008, he moved to Oregon and, in his first full year of practice in Portland, was named as one of Oregon’s Top Psychiatrists. In 2015, Dr. Conti joined Fora Health’s staff as Medical Director and helped build our Medically Assisted Treatment Program. We are so excited to have him back on our team!
