Real transformation is happening every day at Fora Health. You can be part of that today and help people, like Carolyne, live a life they thought was out of reach.
Carolyne grew up in a loving home, but from a young age learned that daily alcohol use was a coping mechanism. Her use started at 13 and trapped her in a back-and-forth struggle with sobriety and addiction.
Carolyne used substances to deal with the tragic passing of her sister, a stormy first marriage and the isolation and loneliness of COVID. Things spiraled to the point where she alienated most of the people in her life, got three DUIs and was given an ultimatum. Prison or treatment. Around this time, a bed became available for her at Fora Health, and she was ready to make a change.
โThings were going very bad, very fast, and I had to be stopped in my tracks because it obviously was not working on my own.โ
Carolyne fully invested in Foraโs classes, groups, therapy, art programs and more. She found her counselor especially helpful, who was in tune with her needs as a patient. She is proud that she dug deep in programming and uncovered the issues impacting her wellness.
โFrom the second I started the intake process, I just felt safe. That was my biggest thing. I got to Fora and thought, This is a place I can heal.โ
Sheโs now working on reunification with her husband and setting the boundaries she needs to stay sober and build the foundation for a strong relationship. Sheโs also reconnecting with her stepchildren and rebuilding their trust.
“This place is special, and it will always be a home for me. I know I have the support I need here. I’ll go on about that forever because Fora saved my life.โ
Carolyne couldn’t be more grateful to our donors for making what Fora does possible. She’s gone from hopeless and on the brink of death to dreaming of a new career in addiction treatment. She will make a difference in the lives of others one day.
